To have witnessed that first Christmas centuries ago – to have been there as Jesus was born, as shepherds arrived breathless with excitement and as magi brought their gifts – how wonderful that must have been. We cannot, of course, enjoy such immediacy, but we can attempt to put ourselves into the shoes of those most directly involved, and so capture a sense of joy, wonder and gratitude they must have felt.
