Description:

Justice is the thread of gold running through both the Old and New Testaments, from the creation to the covenant, the cradle to the cross. It is also the theme of this exciting new collection of hymns and songs. Hunger for Justice celebrates God's Kingdom, the dreams and the demands, the hope and the healing. In a world of empty promises these hymns are a breath of fresh air. In a world where poverty is still the ultimate weapon of mass destruction these songs challenge our apathy and inspire us to reclaim our prophetic heritage.

Contents:

A
All dreams must fade away
All for you
Amen, amen, it shall be so!
Ascribe the greatness
As the light upon the river

B
Beauty for brokenness
Because of you
Behold a broken world, we pray
Bendice, Senor, nuestro pan
Be the hands of Jesus
Blest are the poor
Break the chains
Brother, sister, let me serve you

C
Child
Could I bring you words
Cry 'Freedom!'

D
Dance on injustice
Don't know much about the ozone layer

F
Faith in the city
For a fairer world
For the fruits of this creation
For the healing of the nations
Freedom is coming

G
Give is love
Give your burdens to the Lord
Giving, receiving
God bless to us our bread
God is love, let heaven adore him
God of freedom, God of justice
God of the moon and stars
God of the poor
God's surprise
God! When human bonds are broken
God with us
God, you meet us in our weakness
Goodness is stronger than evil

H
Heal our nation
Heaven shall not wait
He came amid the turmoil
Here I am, all alone
Here I am, Lord
Here I stand
He said we must forgive
He walked where I walk
Hopes and dreams
How ancient and lovely
How can we stand together
How lovely on the mountains
Hunger for justice

I
If this is not our world
I give my life to you
I know why I'm here
I'm black, I'm white, I'm short, I'm tall
In an age of twisted values
In every way
Inspired by love and anger
I prayed for peace
I sit outside the rich world's gate
I, the Lord of sea and sky
It is God who holds the nations
It only takes a tiny seed
I will offer up my life

J
Jesus Christ gives life and gladness
Jesus Christ is waiting

L
Liberating Lord
Lord, gives is your Spirit
Lord, have mercy
Lord of the earth's resources
Lord, teach us to rejoice in you

M
More than land, more than wealth

O
O God, who gives the fertile seed
On a donkey riding
Our burden is heavy
Our God reigns
Our God, supreme and good

P
Point of no return
Praise with joy the world's Creator
Pray for a miracle
Put peace into each other's hands

R
Rise like the sun

S
Scandal of poverty
Sent by the Lord
Shall faith be found on earth
Show your power, O Lord
Sing out, my tongue

T
Take us to the valley
Teach us how to walk in your footsteps
The Church of Christ in every age
The city of our God
The day of the Lord shall come
The kingdom of God
The living God
The love of God comes close
There's a child with tears in her eyes
There's a place where the streets shine
There's a spirit in the air
The servant song
The summons
This is God's world
This love compels me
This thankful heart
This we can do for justice
Together we'll do it
Trying to live

U
Unto him who is able
Unzima

W
Walk the talk
We are going out to sing
We bring you, Lord
We cannot measure how you heal
We have a dream
We hear your cry, Lord
We lay our broken world
We plough the fields, and scatter
We shall rise
We turn to you, O God of every nation
What Jesus would have done
What star shall we follow
When I needed a neighbour
When Light looked down
Who can sound the depths of sorrow
Who would think
Will you come and follow me

Y
You're the one
Yours is the kingdom

FOREWORD
Every human struggle has its song, a creative expression of hope and protest. Amongst all the arts used to further the causes of justice and peace, music has arguably been the most powerful instrument of change. So I am delighted to recommend this fine collection of hymns and songs.
In this world of makeovers, rollovers, and instant fame or fortune, it is important not to lose sight of the real problems facing the world and its people. With half the world's people going to bed hungry every night and billions suffering from the effects of debt, disease, exploitation, pollution, and unfair trade rules, the people of God are surely called to put their faith into action; to be part of the solution.
I am so impressed with the way in which Christian Aid courageously tackles the root causes of poverty, and helps us see how we can all make a real difference. It is empowering to be involved in the movement for global justice and to have such a wealth of refreshing songs to inspire us!
All the major campaigns led by Christians have been born out of worship and prayer. This collection gives us the opportunity to not only raise our voices in songs of praise, but also to stand alongside God's precious poor; expose the scandal of poverty; unfold God's kingdom and express our hunger for justice.
